Controversy Erupts Over Kuldeep Sengar's Conditional Bail in Unnao Rape Case
Rising Controversy Following Conditional Bail
The conditional bail granted to Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted in the Unnao rape case, has sparked significant controversy. This situation intensified when Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar made a contentious remark regarding the case.
What Did Rajbhar Say?
In response to images showing the victim being forcibly removed by Delhi police during a protest at India Gate, Minister Rajbhar laughed and remarked, 'India Gate? Their home is Unnao.' He further argued that since the court ordered Sengar to stay 5 kilometers away from his family, there was no question of safety concerns.
Victim Appeals to Chief Minister
The victim expressed strong disapproval of Rajbhar's flippant tone and urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to dismiss him immediately. In an interview with a media outlet, she stated, 'Rajbhar was laughing while making his statement. He should feel ashamed for siding with a rapist. I appeal to the Chief Minister to remove such a person from the ministry.'
Political Reactions and Developments
On Wednesday, the victim and her mother met with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi to express their concerns about their safety. Meanwhile, the CBI has confirmed its intention to challenge the Delhi High Court's decision to suspend Sengar's sentence in the Supreme Court.
The Delhi High Court granted Sengar bail on a bond of 1.5 million, but he will remain in custody due to a 10-year sentence related to the custodial death of the victim's father.
