Controversy Erupts Over Bengali Singer's Live Performance Incident
Incident During Live Show
A troubling incident involving renowned Bengali singer Laganjita Chakraborty has come to light during a live performance. The individual accused, Mahboob Malik, who is the owner of the school where the event took place and the main organizer, has been apprehended.
Details of the Dispute
According to Laganjita, while she was performing a devotional song titled 'Jago Maa', Mahboob Malik attempted to interrupt her on stage. Allegations suggest that he used abusive language, insisting, 'Enough of Jago Maa, now sing a secular song.'
Threats and Assault Allegations
The singer reported that Malik attempted to physically assault her and issued threats to her life.
Police Inaction
Laganjita claimed that initially, the police refused to file a report regarding the incident. Consequently, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against two police officers for their negligence in handling the case.
Organizer's Defense
The brother of the accused has dismissed the allegations as false. He asserts that Laganjita demanded extra payment due to delays in her performance and that she was merely requested to sing a secular song because of the school function.
Political Repercussions
The BJP has criticized the Trinamool Congress in light of this incident, alleging that the accused is affiliated with the ruling party and that an 'anti-Hindu' atmosphere is being fostered in the state. The TMC has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter.
