In the 61st over, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant approached the umpires to request an inspection of the ball. The umpires checked it with a gauge, and it passed the test, indicating it was compliant with regulations. However, Pant appeared dissatisfied with the decision, visibly frustrated as he slammed the ball onto the ground, creating a tense atmosphere on the field.

The dispute did not end there. Two overs later, in the 63rd over, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj also questioned the ball's condition and appealed to the umpires for a replacement. Once again, the umpires checked the ball with a gauge, and it was deemed acceptable according to the rules. Consequently, the umpires refused to change the ball, leading to visible disappointment among the Indian players. Jasprit Bumrah was also seen discussing the matter with the umpires, but they stood firm on their decision. This incident has since gone viral on social media.
New Ball Granted in 75th Over
However, after a few overs, the umpires eventually agreed to the players' request. Due to the ball's deteriorating condition, they decided to replace it after the 74th over, which was six overs before the usual new ball is provided after 80 overs of bowling in a Test match.
