As IPL 2026 unfolds, several controversies have emerged, and a new issue has come to light. While this particular matter is not directly related to the IPL itself, it has surfaced amidst various disputes during the current season. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has now targeted the impressive batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, alongside a female cricketer who has also received a notice.
Recently, NADA made changes to the registered testing pool list, requiring players included in the RTP to regularly update their whereabouts and be available for doping tests at designated times. According to reports, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been found in violation of these regulations, leading to a notice being issued against him.
The name of a prominent female cricketer has also surfaced alongside Jaiswal's in the agency's notice, both facing allegations of a Whereabouts Failure due to missing their first scheduled tests. However, both players will have the opportunity to present their defense.
Reports indicate that Yashasvi and Shefali were not present at the doping control officer's location at the specified time. Jaiswal was supposed to undergo a doping test on December 17 of last year, while Shefali's test was scheduled for November 7. Their absence led to inquiries on February 18 and 20, but no responses were received, resulting in a recorded missed test.
Potential Two-Year Ban Under NADA Regulations
According to NADA's regulations, if a player records three missed tests under the Whereabouts Failure category within a 12-month period, they are deemed to have violated anti-doping rules. This triggers a hearing regarding their case. If the player cannot prove their innocence before NADA's hearing panel, they could face a ban of up to two years.
Following the recording of their first missed test, both Yashasvi and Shefali will be given a chance to explain themselves, with a seven-day window to respond. The BCCI and ICC have also been informed of this situation. Both players must remain vigilant, as any additional missed tests within the next 12 months could lead to further sanctions.
NADA's List Includes 14 Cricketers
NADA's list currently comprises 348 athletes, including 14 cricketers. Notable players such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Tilak Varma are already part of this list. Additionally, all-rounder Deepti Sharma, along with Shefali Verma and Renuka Singh Thakur, who made history by winning the ODI World Cup last year, are also included.
