Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and chief of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), found himself embroiled in controversy following the Women's Asia Cup 2026 Final held at Dubai International Stadium on September 13. After India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 72 runs, avenging their loss in the 2024 final, the Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi. This mirrored the actions of their male counterparts from the previous year, who also left the trophy unclaimed on the presentation stage. Although Naqvi presented the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka's captain, Chamari Athapaththu, the Indian players chose to remain in the dressing room, repeating last year's boycott.

Consequently, Naqvi departed the venue without presenting the trophy to the Indian team, as they opted to stay away from the stage.

Support from Pakistani Fans

After leaving the venue, Naqvi was met by a gathering of fans outside the stadium. One Pakistani supporter praised him for his stance during the trophy presentation standoff. In a video that gained traction on social media, the fan expressed that India did not deserve the trophy, suggesting that Naqvi's actions were justified. The fan stated, "Good job Sir, we are happy with you. They don't deserve this trophy."

Despite the praise, Naqvi simply smiled and waved as he was driven away, avoiding interaction with the crowd. Earlier, he faced jeers from some Indian spectators inside the stadium, who labeled him 'Trophy Chor' in reference to the previous year's incident.

The Pakistani fan's commendation of Naqvi's refusal to hand over the trophy sparked a wave of reactions online, particularly on social media platforms. Many Indian users criticized Naqvi and mocked the Pakistani fan's celebration.
