Incident Overview

Agra. During a train journey, a ticket inspector was checking tickets. Some passengers were showing their tickets, while others were without tickets and faced penalties. The inspector approached a passenger sitting near the gate and requested to see his ticket.

The passenger claimed he had purchased one but could not produce it at that moment. The inspector insisted that without a ticket, a penalty would be imposed, leading to a heated argument between them. The passenger then took the inspector towards the bathroom, where he revealed something that escalated the situation further. A commotion ensued, which only calmed down after the arrival of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Indian Railways has been actively conducting campaigns to ensure a comfortable journey for passengers with reservations and to catch those traveling without tickets. This initiative began during the festive season and continues to this day. The campaign has significantly boosted railway revenue, resulting in fewer passengers boarding reserved coaches.

The inspection drives have created a chaotic atmosphere at trains and stations, with ticketless and irregular travelers attempting to hide. During the campaign, a total of 169 passengers traveling without authorization, littering, and smoking were apprehended, leading to a collection of ₹119,530 in railway revenue and fines.

In one instance, when the inspector asked a passenger about his ticket, the passenger claimed it had fallen in the bathroom. The inspector was skeptical but was taken to the bathroom by the passenger, which further aggravated the inspector's frustration. However, the passenger insisted on showing him inside. Eventually, the inspector found a ticket on the floor, soaked due to spilled water. Despite the ongoing argument, the situation was defused after the RPF's intervention.
