Consumer Wins Case Against Tailor for Delayed Blouse Delivery in Ahmedabad
Consumer Takes Legal Action Over Delayed Blouse
Whenever we hand over clothes to a tailor for stitching, delays often occur. This is a common experience, yet we usually have no recourse. However, a designer shop on CG Road in Ahmedabad faced a unique situation when a woman filed a lawsuit against a tailor for not delivering her blouse on time. Let's delve into the details of this case.
The incident began when a woman from Ahmedabad ordered a blouse to accompany her traditional saree for a family wedding. She paid an advance of ₹4,395 and selected the design and fabric. The blouse was supposed to be ready by December 24. Unfortunately, the tailor failed to deliver the blouse as promised, showing negligence in fulfilling the order. Despite her requests for timely completion, the blouse was not ready before the wedding.
Court Imposes Fine for Delay
Frustrated by the lack of response, the woman sent a notice to the tailor, but received no reply. Consequently, she lodged a complaint with the Ahmedabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. During the hearing, the commission noted that the tailor's failure to complete the work on time indicated a lack of service quality, causing the woman mental distress.
Compensation Ordered Within 45 Days
In light of the circumstances, the court ordered the tailor to refund the ₹4,395 along with 7% annual interest. Additionally, the tailor was instructed to pay ₹7,000 as compensation for mental anguish and legal expenses, which must be settled within 45 days.
