Congress Launches Election Manifesto in Assam

Nowboicha, Mar 29: On Sunday, the Congress party in Assam presented its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections, featuring five major commitments as AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge spearheaded an energetic campaign in Nowboicha.

During a large public gathering, Kharge emphasized that the manifesto was developed through consultations with the community, outlining a progressive vision focused on welfare, social security, and the rights of indigenous people.

The manifesto highlighted five key promises that the party intends to fulfill if elected.

One of the standout commitments includes providing women with an unconditional monthly financial aid of Rs 50,000 to support entrepreneurship, which Kharge described as a significant shift from the BJP's 'conditional transfers'.

“The BJP imposes conditions on their transfers, asking if you are affiliated with them. In contrast, Congress will offer support without such inquiries and may even extend beyond that,” he stated.

Additionally, the party proposed a cashless health insurance plan of Rs 25 lakh for each family, referencing similar initiatives in Congress-led states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

In a notable political promise, Kharge assured that justice would be served in the Zubeen Garg case within 100 days, vowing to hold those responsible accountable.

“We will ensure that the culprits do not escape justice. Zubeen Garg has been murdered, and we will deliver justice within 100 days,” he asserted.

The manifesto also committed to granting permanent land pattas to 10 lakh indigenous individuals, replacing the current system of yearly allotments.

“This will eliminate the need for people to navigate bureaucratic hurdles. Land rights will be secured permanently,” he emphasized, marking this as a crucial initiative.

Moreover, the Congress pledged a monthly allowance of Rs 1,250 for senior citizens to enhance social security measures.

Kharge framed the manifesto as inclusive, stating it “has something for everyone” and encouraged voters to support a party dedicated to public welfare.

Alongside the policy announcements, Kharge intensified his criticism of the current government, accusing it of instilling fear and centralizing authority. “Himanta Biswa Sarma is creating an atmosphere of fear. Those who oppose him face repercussions. Do not succumb to such politics,” he warned.

He also criticized the BJP's leadership for governance shortcomings and questioned the political direction of the state, urging voters to seek change in the forthcoming elections.

This rally was a pivotal moment in the Congress campaign, with the manifesto and its five key promises forming the foundation of their electoral strategy as the voting date approaches.
