Congress Unveils Promises for Assam Assembly Elections
Congress Launches Election Manifesto in Assam
Nowboicha, Mar 29: The Congress party in Assam presented its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections on Sunday, led by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, who energized the crowd during a rally in Nowboicha.
Kharge emphasized that the manifesto was developed through public consultation, outlining a progressive agenda focused on welfare, social security, and the rights of indigenous communities.
Central to the manifesto are five major commitments that the party pledges to fulfill if elected.
One of the key promises includes providing women with an unconditional monthly financial aid of Rs 50,000 to support entrepreneurship, which Kharge described as a significant shift from the BJP's 'conditional transfers'.
“Unlike the BJP, which ties financial assistance to party affiliation, Congress will offer support without such conditions,” he stated.
The party also proposed a cashless health insurance plan of Rs 25 lakh for each family, referencing similar initiatives in Congress-led states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
In a notable political commitment, Kharge assured that justice would be served in the Zubeen Garg case within 100 days, vowing to hold the culprits accountable.
“We will ensure that those responsible for Garg's murder face justice within 100 days,” he asserted.
Furthermore, the manifesto promises permanent land rights for 10 lakh indigenous individuals, replacing the current system of temporary allotments.
“This will eliminate the need for people to navigate bureaucratic hurdles. Land rights will be secured permanently,” he added, highlighting this as a crucial initiative.
Additionally, the Congress party plans to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 1,250 to senior citizens to enhance social security measures.
Kharge characterized the manifesto as inclusive, stating it “has something for everyone” and encouraged voters to support a party dedicated to public welfare.
Alongside the policy announcements, Kharge criticized the current government, accusing it of instilling fear and centralizing authority. “Himanta Biswa Sarma is creating an atmosphere of fear. Those who oppose him face repercussions. Do not succumb to such politics,” he warned.
He also challenged the BJP's leadership, pointing out governance shortcomings and questioning the state's political direction, urging voters to seek change in the forthcoming elections.
This rally was a pivotal moment in the Congress campaign, with the manifesto and its five key promises forming the backbone of their electoral strategy as the election date approaches.
