Congress Intensifies Campaign for Assam Elections
As the Assam Assembly elections approach, the Congress party is fully committed to regaining power in the state. During an election rally in Naoboicha, Lakhimpur district on Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled the party's manifesto, announcing 'five key guarantees' for the public.
Five Key Guarantees from Congress
Kharge assured that if Congress comes to power, the following measures will be implemented.
Women’s Welfare: Unconditional cash transfers will be made to women's bank accounts, along with a financial aid of ₹50,000 to start new businesses.
Health Security: Each family will receive cashless health insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh.
Land Rights: Approximately 1 million local 'sons of the soil' will be granted permanent land leases.
Justice for Zubeen Garg: A thorough investigation into the death of Assam's cultural icon, the late Zubeen Garg, will be completed within 100 days to ensure justice.
Support for Senior Citizens: Elderly residents of the state will receive monthly financial assistance of ₹1,250.
Allegations Against BJP Government
During the rally, Kharge launched a strong attack on the BJP's 'double-engine' government, claiming it is not a 'double engine' but rather a 'double loot' government that exploits Assam's resources to fill the coffers of leaders in Delhi. He referred to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as a 'fake chief minister,' accusing him of deceitfully obtaining power and instilling fear in the state.
Addressing Discrimination Issues
Kharge asserted that corruption has reached new heights under BJP rule, implicating family members of their leaders in the wrongdoing. He further accused the BJP of wanting to govern the country according to outdated 'Manuvadi' principles, which discriminate against Dalits and marginalized communities. He urged the public to unite and oust such divisive forces from power.
Celebrating Assam's Heritage
Kharge reminisced about great personalities like Sankardev, Gopinath Bordoloi, and Tarun Gogoi, stating that they shaped Assam's identity. He criticized the BJP, claiming that while Congress fought for independence and national unity, the BJP only seeks to sow discord among the people.
