Congress Retains Jhalawar as Rajasthan Municipal Election Results Roll In

Jaipur, September 14: In a significant political development, the Congress party has successfully maintained its hold over Jhalawar, a key area previously governed by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, as the results for Rajasthan's 47 Municipal Councils and 252 Municipalities begin to emerge.

Within the Jhalawar Municipal Council, Congress has claimed victory in 29 out of 45 wards. The BJP managed to secure 13 wards, while Independents took two, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one.

In a surprising turn of events, Independent candidates have triumphed in the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation elections, winning 36 of the 65 wards and establishing themselves as a formidable political presence. The BJP obtained 20 wards, with Congress winning seven, the BSP one, and the RLP one.

After a 15-year gap, the BJP has regained a majority in the Barmer Municipal Council, winning 29 of the 55 wards.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has made an unexpected breakthrough in the Baran Municipal Council, achieving a clear majority with victories in 31 of the 60 wards. Congress secured 18 wards, the BJP nine, and Independents two.

In the Churu Municipal Council, the BJP emerged victorious in 30 of the 60 wards, while Congress won 24 and Independents claimed six.

The BJP is currently leading in the Nagaur Municipal Council, although former district president Ramniwas Sankhla faced defeat in Ward 7. In Ward 10, Praveen Solanki from Congress, son of former chairman Kriparam Solanki, won, despite his maternal uncle, former chairman Mangilal Bhati, supporting the BJP candidate.

Yash Jaldhari of the BJP, grandson of former MLA Ratanlal Jaldhari, has won in Ward 11 of the Sikar Municipal Council.

So far, results for 21 wards in the Jaisalmer Municipal Council have been announced, with BJP candidates winning 12 wards, Congress securing six, and Independents three.

The outcome of these elections will shape the political landscape for over 35,000 candidates vying for positions across Rajasthan's Municipal Councils and Municipalities.

The voting for these urban local body elections took place in two phases on September 9 and 11, with the first phase seeing a voter turnout of 76.41% across 162 urban bodies, while the second phase recorded a turnout of 71.69% in 147 urban bodies.
