Congress Rejects Alliance with AIUDF Ahead of Assam Elections

In a decisive move, Gaurav Gogoi, the President of Congress in Assam, has ruled out any alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), labeling it a communal organization. This statement comes as eight opposition parties prepare to unite against the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. Gogoi emphasized that collaborating with another communal party would contradict their goal of defeating communal forces. He also highlighted the discontent among BJP's grassroots workers, suggesting that the party's future under current leadership looks bleak. This stance sets the stage for a significant political battle in Assam.

Congress Stands Firm Against AIUDF Alliance

The President of the Assam unit of Congress, Gaurav Gogoi, labeled the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) as a 'communal' organization on Tuesday, asserting that there will be no coalition with the opposition party for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections.

Previously, eight opposition parties had decided to unite in their efforts to defeat the ruling BJP in next year's assembly elections.

Gogoi stated to reporters, 'Under no circumstances will there be an alliance with AIUDF. It is a communal party, similar to the ruling BJP. We cannot join forces with another communal entity to defeat a communal force.'

In the 2021 assembly elections in Assam, the Congress-led coalition included the AIUDF as a component party.

Gogoi further claimed, 'The BJP has already witnessed that its prospects under the current leadership are not promising. The top leadership is aware that true party workers are becoming disillusioned. While ministers and a few close associates have benefited, the grassroots workers have gained nothing.'
