Political Reactions to Dhankhar's Resignation

The Congress party has been vocal in questioning the abrupt resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, urging the government to organize a farewell ceremony in his honor. This request comes amidst rising political discussions surrounding his resignation, which he attributed to health issues. However, opposition leaders have been pressing the government for clarity on the matter.

Congress's Demand and Government's Silence

Sources indicate that during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on Wednesday evening, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh raised this demand. Despite this, the government has remained silent, with central ministers JP Nadda and Kiren Rijiju not responding to the request. Notably, no other opposition leader supported Ramesh's call for a farewell.

Allegations Surrounding Dhankhar's Resignation

The Congress party has also alleged that Dhankhar was "forced to resign" following the acceptance of a notice signed by opposition MPs for the removal of Justice Yashwant Verma. This notice came after bundles of burnt notes were recovered from Verma's residence a few months prior. The demand for a farewell arises as the Rajya Sabha prepares to bid farewell to six of its members, including Ambumani Ramadoss and Vaiko.

Dhankhar's Unexpected Departure

In a surprising move, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the vice presidency on Monday, citing health reasons. His term was set to conclude on August 10, 2027. Speculations regarding the reasons for his resignation have emerged, with many pointing to alleged disagreements between him and the government over a proposed motion to remove two judges.
