Guwahati, May 21: The Congress party is gearing up for an important meeting this evening as the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly convenes. This gathering is expected to culminate in a decisive appointment regarding the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in the state.

This decision is particularly significant given the heightened political dynamics surrounding the leadership of Congress in Assam following the establishment of the new Assembly.

Furthermore, the choice of the CLP leader is anticipated to facilitate the official selection of the Leader of the Opposition within the Assam Assembly.

After returning from discussions with the party's high command in Delhi, Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), informed the media that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) would make the final decision after consulting with party legislators.

“I have engaged in discussions with the AICC. They will be consulting with the MLAs, and only after that will a decision be reached. I have communicated that our meeting is scheduled, and we will accept whatever decision the party leadership makes,” Gogoi stated.

The upcoming Congress Legislature Party meeting is expected to include newly elected members, with discussions on the party's strategies within the Assembly also on the agenda.

“We are not making any unilateral decisions. An AICC observer will arrive, and after discussions with all of us, the final decision will be made. We have invited the new MLAs, and together we will proceed to the Assembly,” remarked Wajed Ali, MLA from Birsing Jorua.

The selection of the CLP leader is poised to be instrumental in shaping the Congress party's coordination and strategic approach during the current Assembly session.
