Gaurav Gogoi Denies Allegations

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has firmly rebutted the accusations made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling them as false. He emphasized that the government has failed to provide substantial evidence to support its claims. Gogoi stated, 'What is the government doing? They have not presented any concrete proof.' He further mentioned his critical stance against the Pakistani government on international platforms and social media.

Additionally, Gogoi expressed support for the Congress party's decision to send a multi-party delegation globally, asserting that efforts should be directed towards reinstating Pakistan on the Financial Action Task Force's grey list.

Concerns Over Financial Aid to Pakistan

The Congress leader highlighted the necessity of ensuring that Pakistan does not receive any additional funding for its military and terrorist intelligence operations. He raised concerns regarding the recent approval of $2.5 billion in aid to Pakistan by the IMF, fearing that the funds could be used to repair damages inflicted on the Pakistani military infrastructure by Indian armed forces. Gogoi insisted on the need to exert pressure on the IMF, particularly from nations like the USA, UK, Germany, and France, which have close ties with the Indian government.

Despite these concerns, he noted that the IMF has still decided to provide financial assistance.

Sarma's Claims About Gogoi's Visit to Pakistan

In response to Gogoi's statements, Sarma accused him of visiting Pakistan at the invitation of the ISI, claiming that he had collaborated closely with the neighboring country's establishment. During a press interaction, Sarma asserted that the government possesses documentary evidence to back this claim, which will be made public by September 10 after proper verification. He stated, 'Gaurav Gogoi went to Pakistan at the invitation of the ISI. This is the first time I am saying this. We have documents to prove it. He did not go for tourism; he certainly went there for training purposes.'

Sarma's Remarks on the Nature of Gogoi's Visit

Sarma described Gogoi's visit as 'dangerous,' asserting that the Congress MP was working closely with the Pakistani establishment. He questioned the nature of the invitation, stating, 'When does the Home Department send invitations? It is only for training purposes. Otherwise, why would the ISI invite him?' Sarma clarified that receiving an invitation from the Ministry of External Affairs or a university is different from being invited directly by Pakistan's Home Department.
