Warning Issued to Congress Leaders

KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of Congress, has issued a caution to all party members. This warning came after party leader Shashi Tharoor compared Rahul Gandhi's 'Students' Echo' movement to the one led by the 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP). Venugopal emphasized the need for leaders to be careful with their remarks. Responding to questions about Tharoor's suggestion that Gandhi's initiative was less popular among the 'Gen Z' demographic compared to the CJP-led protests, Venugopal stated that he had only seen Tharoor's comments on a few media channels and had not fully grasped what was said.

Venugopal remarked that while Congress members may not always strictly adhere to party rules or discipline, they should avoid making statements that could benefit the BJP or please them. He added that if anyone criticizes Rahul Gandhi or makes negative comments about him, it would bring joy to the BJP, which would be their greatest delight.

He expressed doubt that Tharoor had intentionally made such remarks. Venugopal also noted that young people from 'Gen Z' participated in Gandhi's event in Allahabad and accused the UP government of attempting to disrupt the program. He highlighted that Gandhi raised the issue of students who allegedly faced police action during protests, stating, 'You must have seen who first brought the student affected by pellet guns to the public? It was Rahul Gandhi.'

Tharoor's Insights on Youth Engagement

This discussion arose when Tharoor pointed out that opposition parties should reflect on why they have struggled to connect with the younger generation. During a conversation, he mentioned that political parties must acknowledge their failure to create spaces for youth within established political organizations, especially those who participated in last month's protests at Jantar Mantar. When asked if the 'Students' Echo' rallies received less support than the Jantar Mantar rally, Tharoor agreed, stating, 'That's correct. Therefore, we must ask ourselves what we have failed to do.'
