Congress Leaders Finalize Karnataka Cabinet and Rajya Sabha Candidates
Key Meeting to Shape Karnataka's Political Landscape
On June 2, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, convened an important meeting in Delhi with Karnataka's Chief Ministerial candidates D.K. Shivakumar and senior leader Siddaramaiah. This gathering aimed to finalize the new cabinet for the state and select candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. The meeting took place following Siddaramaiah's resignation as Chief Minister, marking the beginning of a leadership transition that allows Shivakumar to take charge of the state government.
Discussions on Cabinet Formation
On the same day, Shivakumar visited Kharge's residence in the national capital to discuss cabinet formation and significant organizational appointments ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. These discussions are crucial as the Congress high command prepares to finalize the structure of the Karnataka cabinet, which includes ministerial positions, the role of the Deputy Chief Minister, and the reorganization of the party's state unit.
Consultations with Senior Leaders
Earlier, senior Congress leaders from Karnataka gathered in New Delhi for consultations with party leadership. Acting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, and other senior leaders held a meeting at Kharge's residence. Shivakumar's swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for June 3 at 4 PM at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Prior to this, Siddaramaiah met with party leaders in Delhi, and Karnataka Congress MLA Priyank Kharge discussed his potential role in the new cabinet amid speculations.
