Alliance Meeting Highlights Economic and Social Issues

During a recent gathering at the Constitution Club, Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the India Bloc and Congress, emphasized the pressing economic, social, and foreign policy challenges facing the nation. He criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists being conducted across the country. In his opening remarks, Kharge praised the unity of the alliance in defeating the Constitution (One Hundred Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, the delimitation bill, and the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill in Parliament.

Expressing concerns on various issues, the Congress leader highlighted inflation and irregularities in examinations, accusing the BJP-led central government of pursuing a "compromised" foreign policy. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh shared Kharge's remarks on social media, welcoming all leaders of the India Bloc to the meeting. He noted that this coalition was formed nearly three years ago and refrained from elaborating further, as the issues at hand are well-known to everyone. On April 17, 2026, they demonstrated their unity and solidarity in the Lok Sabha by standing together to defeat the Modi government's malicious delimitation bills.

Call for Strengthened Unity Against Governance Challenges

Kharge further stated that it is essential to reinforce and advance this spirit of unity to tackle the numerous political, economic, social, and foreign policy challenges posed by the Modi administration. He pointed out that millions of citizens are losing their voting rights due to the SIR. The ongoing assault on the Constitution continues unabated, with investigative agencies being misused to intimidate and pressure political opponents. Discrimination against non-BJP governments is prevalent, while the prices of essential goods keep rising, creating a severely negative economic environment.

Media Engagement and Concerns Over Employment and Governance

Leaders of the India Bloc are scheduled to meet with the media today. They expressed concerns that new investments necessary for job creation are not occurring at the required pace. There is a growing monopoly in several sectors, putting the future of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in jeopardy. The complete mismanagement of the examination system is shattering the hopes and aspirations of millions of young people. Furthermore, atrocities against marginalized communities, particularly in BJP-ruled states, continue unchecked. The nation’s foreign policy has weakened significantly, failing to uphold the traditional values that India has long supported.
