Congress Leader Criticizes Government Over Alleged Ram Temple Fund Misappropriation

K.C. Venugopal, Congress General Secretary, has accused the central government and RSS of significant financial misconduct regarding donations to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He described the situation as a major theft affecting millions of devotees and questioned the silence of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister. Venugopal emphasized the need for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation to uncover the truth behind the alleged misappropriation. He also raised concerns about similar allegations involving other prominent temples, calling for accountability and transparency in the matter. This controversy highlights the intersection of faith and politics in India.

Congress's Strong Allegations Against the Government

On Saturday, K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of Congress, launched a fierce attack on the central government and the RSS family regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds and gold donations for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He labeled this incident as 'the largest theft at a religious site in India.' Venugopal raised serious questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the matter, stating that Congress would demand direct answers from him in the upcoming parliamentary session. Speaking to reporters outside the famous Guruvayur Temple in Kerala, he accused the situation of being not just a financial scam but a significant betrayal of the faith of millions of devotees across the country.

Concerns Over Investigation and Accountability

He emphasized, 'We are raising this issue nationwide and will continue to do so. This theft has affected millions of devotees. However, both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister remain silent. Only a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Uttar Pradesh police, seemingly to protect the real culprits.' Venugopal asserted that only an investigation under the Supreme Court's supervision could uncover the true offenders behind this alleged theft. He claimed that organizations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the RSS have been collecting donations from devotees in the name of the temple for the past 20-25 years, and now those funds and gold have been misappropriated.

Accusations Against BJP and RSS

He further alleged that this misappropriation occurred with the knowledge of the temple trust officials appointed under the Prime Minister's oversight. Venugopal accused the BJP and RSS of not being genuinely religious, stating, 'Their interest lies only in looting in the name of Hindus and dividing people for votes. This is not just theft; it is an attack on the faith of devotees.' He clarified that for Congress, this is not merely a political issue, but rather accused the BJP and RSS of exploiting God for their political agendas.

Questions Raised About BJP's Silence

Venugopal also questioned why the BJP's Kerala unit has remained silent on this issue, suggesting that their silence indicates an intention to shield the actual culprits. He claimed that similar allegations of theft are emerging concerning the Badrinath and Kedarnath temples as well.

Concerns Over Financial Irregularities

He expressed astonishment at the typically vocal BJP's unusual silence regarding this entire matter, asserting that this silence clearly shows they are also protecting the real perpetrators of the scam. Additionally, he pointed out that not only Ayodhya but also the renowned Badrinath and Kedarnath temples are facing serious allegations of financial irregularities and theft, which require thorough investigation.
