Congress Leader Responds to Assam CM's Controversial Statement

On Thursday, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari condemned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's assertion that the Congress party is incapable of forming a government in India but could do so in Pakistan. Tiwari retorted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should establish a government in Israel, which he referred to as their homeland. Speaking to the media, Tiwari emphasized that as a Chief Minister, one should possess a certain level of education and knowledge. He stated that in a democracy, a government is naturally formed within the borders of India. If Sarma insists that Congress can only govern in Pakistan, then the BJP should be forming a government in Israel, as that is where their allegiance lies, a sentiment echoed by their Prime Minister.

He further remarked that it is essential to remember that responses will be given in their own language and urged not to forget their homeland. Tiwari's comments were a direct response to Sarma's claim that no local citizen would vote for Congress, suggesting that the party could only establish a government in Pakistan or Bangladesh, not in India. On Wednesday, the Assam Chief Minister asserted that under BJP leadership, the state has undergone a complete transformation, insisting that no Indian native would support Congress in the upcoming elections.

While addressing reporters in Guwahati, Sarma stated that they have completely transformed Assam, presenting a new vision based on strong cultural and heritage values. He claimed that aside from Bangladeshi infiltrators, everyone is aligned with the BJP. He questioned who would want to vote for Congress, reiterating that the party cannot form a government in India but could potentially do so in Pakistan or Bangladesh.

The upcoming elections in Assam will see a contest between the BJP-led NDA government and Congress across 126 assembly seats. The BJP, under Sarma's leadership, aims for a third consecutive term, while Congress seeks to reclaim power. It is anticipated that Sarma will contest from his traditional Jalukbari seat. The Election Commission has announced that voting for all 126 assembly seats will take place in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.
