Congress Leader Criticizes AAP's Political Holi Celebration
Sandeep Dikshit Questions AAP's Holi Celebration
On Wednesday, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) 'staunchly honest' Holi celebration, asserting that festivals and politics should remain separate. He remarked that if political figures had their way, they would want to associate themselves with everything, even wanting their names inscribed on the wood used for someone's funeral. Dikshit emphasized to a news outlet that Holi and politics are distinct entities, and he consistently conveys this message. He finds it peculiar when individuals attempt to merge festivals with political agendas, noting that he has witnessed numerous instances where leaders interfere in various matters. It seems as if, given the chance, they would even want their names on funeral pyres.
Context of the Criticism
Dikshit's remarks followed a Holi celebration hosted by former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal at the residence of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Kejriwal shared a post on Facebook stating that he celebrated Holi with party colleagues and workers at Sisodia's home. He further asserted that despite 'conspiracies and lies,' the party's enthusiasm remains intact due to its commitment to honesty and public trust.
Recent Developments
In his Facebook post, Kejriwal mentioned, "Today, we celebrated 'staunchly honest' Holi at Manish's house with all party colleagues and workers. Despite the conspiracies and lies, the colors of the Aam Aadmi Party have not faded, as our strength lies in honesty and public trust. We will continue to move forward with the colors of truth and struggle." This celebration occurred after the Delhi government removed Holi from the list of 'Dry Days' this year. A notification issued in January stated that Republic Day, Mahashivratri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti would be observed as 'Dry Days.' This list is applicable only for the period from January to March.
