Congress Leader's Perspective on Youth Movements

While discussing the Cockroach People's Party movement, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed that, although it serves as a significant channel for conveying the frustrations of the youth, ultimately, it is the established political parties that must advance the issues raised. The Congress General Secretary emphasized that democracy cannot solely rely on movements; it fundamentally depends on political parties.

When asked about the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) movement, Ramesh noted that some believe it has backing from 'deep state' forces, while others view it as a manifestation of youth disillusionment. There is no definitive way to prove either claim, but it is evident that the movement has sparked considerable discussion on social media and has made headlines, yet it does not constitute a political party.

Ramesh reiterated that political parties are what truly matter, as the structure of a party is crucial. He acknowledged that while the movement is an important means of expressing youth discontent, it is the responsibility of established political parties to carry it forward. He stressed that movements have their place, but democracy ultimately relies on political parties as its foundation.

The CJP continues its protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. On Tuesday, demonstrators organized a 'Diaper Donation Drive' as part of their campaign demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations of NEET-UG paper leaks and irregularities in the examination process.
