Congress Leader's Support for Political Unity

On Wednesday, senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar expressed strong support for the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) and the India bloc, while also welcoming any political agreements among the Thackeray brothers in Mumbai. He stated that there is no reason to be upset when a family comes together to contest elections, extending his congratulations and best wishes for their success.

Wadettiwar further emphasized that Congress has never been inclined to form an alliance with the MNS. He reiterated that the party has consistently stood alongside Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar, a stance that remains unchanged. Speaking at a press conference in Nagpur, he claimed that Congress emerged as the largest party in the recent municipal council elections, reflecting the trust and preferences of its grassroots workers in local governance.

Referring to the election results, Wadettiwar noted that despite not being part of a coalition, Congress outperformed its allies in terms of vote share, council seats, and mayoral positions. He remarked, "This clearly reflects the mindset of Congress workers, who believe in contesting local body elections independently." Addressing concerns about Marathi identity, he pointed out that there is encroachment on the rights of the Marathi language and its speakers in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai. He accused certain forces of deliberately weakening Mumbai and subjecting it to external influences.

Supporting Uddhav Thackeray's statements on this issue, he asserted that to protect the pride and rights of the Maratha community, solidarity is essential. This sentiment resonates with both him and the party. Regarding the mayoral position and speculations about tensions within the MVA, Wadettiwar stated that linking Lok Sabha or Assembly alliances to local body elections is inappropriate. He emphasized, "Local governance elections depend on local workers and dynamics. There is no question of a coalition breaking apart," adding that Shiv Sena (UBT) remains a part of the India alliance.
