Congress Party's New Initiative

On Thursday, K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the Congress Party, announced the initiation of a nationwide campaign targeting issues such as unemployment, inflation, and the examination crisis, aimed at the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This announcement came just a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated Modi's record as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India. Following a meeting, Venugopal tweeted about discussions held with AICC General Secretaries, in-charges, and PCC Presidents from across the country, under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. The agenda included concerns over rampant unemployment, widespread paper leaks, soaring inflation, and the economic devastation caused by Modi's policies.

Discussion on Democratic Values

Venugopal emphasized that the meeting also addressed the current state of democracy, threats to the Constitution, and the ongoing struggle for social justice. The campaign is expected to commence at the end of June and could last for two to three months. In a press conference following the meeting of state Congress Committee Presidents, General Secretaries, and in-charges, he stated, "Today's meeting extensively discussed the issue regarding the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination for the Rajya Sabha. We will fight this matter politically and legally, as decided by the committee."

Concerns Over Electoral Integrity

He further remarked that the situation resembles electoral theft, particularly after the voting process, indicating a clear case of seat theft. The Congress Party is prepared to engage in both legal and political battles against this. The discussions also focused on the prevailing political climate in the country, particularly the economic crisis. Rising prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG gas are causing significant distress among the populace, with no action being taken by the government. Unemployment is at an all-time high, and the MSME sector is in ruins, leaving the youth deeply concerned about their future and job prospects.
