Congress Faces Challenges as Gaurav Gogoi Backs Prateek Bordoloi Amid Defections
Support for Prateek Bordoloi Amid Political Shifts
Guwahati, Mar 18: In light of recent defections within the Congress party as the Assembly elections approach, Gaurav Gogoi, the chief of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has voiced his support for Prateek Bordoloi. This comes after Prateek's father, senior Congress figure Pradyut Bordoloi, made the switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Prateek Bordoloi, who is running for election from Margherita on a Congress ticket, currently holds the position of Co-Chairman in the APCC’s Social Media Department.
In response to the unfolding situation, Gogoi stated that the decision regarding Prateek's political path is solely his to make.
“Prateek may not have expected to find himself in this predicament. I empathize with him and offer my moral support. Whatever choice he makes, I will communicate with him on behalf of the party,” Gogoi remarked.
He also mentioned that the party would discuss the matter with its central leadership, considering the changing political landscape in Margherita.
“I will reach out to the central committee today to seek a resolution,” he added.
Regarding Pradyut Bordoloi's departure from the Congress, Gogoi described it as “unfortunate.”
“This is his personal choice. If he prefers Himanta Biswa Sarma to return as Chief Minister, that is his decision,” he stated.
Earlier today, Pradyut Bordoloi officially joined the BJP in New Delhi. During his address, he emphasized that political decisions within his family are independent, asserting that his move would not affect his son's decisions.
This development occurs at a pivotal moment for the Congress in Assam, which is currently facing internal challenges and defections as the elections draw near.
