Call for Accountability in Indore Water Crisis

Indore: The Congress party has called for a judicial investigation into the water contamination incident in Indore that resulted in the deaths of six individuals. They have threatened to initiate a protest on January 11 if their demands for corrective actions are not addressed.

Jitu Patwari, the head of the MP Congress, stated that Kailash Vijayvargiya should be dismissed from his position as the state urban development and housing minister, as the area affected, Bhagirathpura, falls within his Indore-1 assembly constituency.

Patwari insisted that a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder should be filed against Indore's Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and relevant civic officials following a meeting with party leaders regarding the drinking water crisis.

He warned that if their demands are ignored, the Congress will escalate their protests in the city on January 11 and will also seek legal action concerning the water tragedy.

Patwari criticized the BJP, claiming that despite winning the Indore Lok Sabha seat and its nine assembly constituencies, the residents have faced dire consequences, including fatalities due to contaminated water.

He emphasized that a total of sixteen deaths have occurred, labeling them as a betrayal of the public's trust in the BJP from previous elections. He called for a thorough judicial investigation into the fatalities linked to tainted drinking water, demanding severe penalties for those responsible.

Residents of Bhagirathpura have reported issues with contaminated water from municipal taps for the past eight months, yet no remedial measures have been taken. They also claim that the water supplied through municipal tankers in the area is similarly polluted, Patwari noted.
