Congress Demands Accountability from Amit Shah Over Student Protests
Congress Calls for Clarification from Home Minister
New Delhi, August 3 - Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated on Monday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should provide an explanation in Parliament regarding the alleged use of batons and pellet guns against protesting students. During a meeting with leaders from the opposition 'India' alliance in his office at the Parliament House, Kharge also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify how donations to the Ram Temple were reportedly misappropriated. He posted on 'X', stating, 'The Modi government must answer the 'India' coalition.'
Kharge emphasized, 'First, the Home Minister should come to Parliament and clarify the actions taken against students, including the use of batons and pellet guns.' He further added, 'Secondly, the Prime Minister needs to explain how the donations made by devotees to the Ram Temple were stolen, especially since the trust was under his supervision.'
The opposition has been demanding a statement from the Home Minister regarding the police action against protesting students since July 20. They have also called for Amit Shah's resignation over this issue. The meeting included prominent opposition figures such as Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, and K.C. Venugopal, along with other leaders from various parties including the Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party.
