Congress Delegation Expresses Condolences Over Khamenei's Death

A delegation from the Congress Party visited the Iranian Culture House in New Delhi on Friday, where they met with a representative of Iran's Supreme Leader. During this meeting, the delegation expressed profound sorrow over the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Senior Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Pawan Khera were part of this delegation, and they conveyed their condolences and sympathies during their discussions with the Iranian representative.

In response to the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri signed a condolence book at the Iranian Embassy on Thursday, representing the Indian government's sentiments. This action was taken at a time when New Delhi had not issued a direct statement regarding Khamenei's assassination. Instead, the government reiterated its longstanding position that the ongoing crisis in West Asia should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Ali Khamenei passed away on February 28 in Tehran, Iran, at the age of 86. He had served as Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in the Middle East. His death occurred during a significant military assault on Iran, where coordinated airstrikes targeted Iranian government and military sites by the United States and Israel. One of these attacks struck the location where Khamenei was present, resulting in his death along with several other officials. The Iranian government officially confirmed his death on March 1 and declared a 40-day national mourning period. Funeral ceremonies were scheduled to take place in Tehran and later in his hometown of Mashhad.
