Congress Targets Delhi's Heat Action Initiative

The Congress party has criticized the heat action plan announced by the Chief Minister of Delhi, pointing out that a minister from the Modi government had previously suggested a rather unconventional remedy: "Keep onions in your pocket to combat the heat." This remark was made by Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader and former environment minister, in reference to a statement by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who claimed that carrying onions helps alleviate the discomfort of extreme heat.

Ramesh took to X to express that the Delhi Chief Minister has launched a heat action plan under the slogan 'Fight the Heat with the Delhi Government.' He emphasized that a minister from the BJP had already initiated a heat action plan with the tagline 'Cure for Heat: Keep Onions in Your Pocket.' Recently, during a rally in his constituency in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Scindia mentioned that while everyone carries a phone nowadays, he prefers to carry an onion, claiming it helps regulate body temperature in the scorching heat.

To illustrate his point, Scindia pulled an onion from his pocket, eliciting laughter from the audience. He further stated that he does not use air conditioning in his car; instead, he relies on having an onion in his pocket, asserting that even in temperatures reaching 51 degrees, it would be effective.
