Congress Raises Concerns Over Modi's Israel Trip

On Wednesday, the Congress party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of displaying 'moral cowardice' ahead of his visit to Israel, especially as global criticism mounts against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Modi is set to embark on a two-day trip to Israel, where he will meet with Netanyahu and address the Knesset, Israel's parliament.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to social media to highlight historical moments, stating, 'On May 20, 1960, Jawaharlal Nehru was in Gaza, meeting with the Indian contingent of the United Nations Emergency Force. On November 29, 1981, India issued a commemorative postage stamp in solidarity with Palestine. On November 18, 1988, India formally recognized the Palestinian state.'

He emphasized, 'That was a different era. Now, the Indian Prime Minister is shamelessly embracing the Israeli leader, who has turned Gaza into rubble and dust and is planning to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.'

Ramesh further claimed that while the world criticizes Modi's close ally Netanyahu, the Prime Minister is about to showcase 'moral cowardice.'

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed her hopes on social media, stating, 'I hope that during his upcoming visit to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Knesset and mention the massacre of thousands of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza, demanding justice for them.'

She added that as an independent nation, India has always stood for what is right throughout its history, urging, 'We must continue to show the world the light of truth, peace, and justice.'
