On Monday, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi expressed her discontent regarding the acquittal of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in the alleged sexual harassment case involving female wrestlers. She accused the central government of hypocrisy concerning women's safety, stating that while they claim to support the youth and advocate for women's empowerment and reservation, their actions tell a different story.

Background of the Allegations

The sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh stemmed from accusations made by female wrestlers during his tenure as the head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). In 2023, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against Singh, which included charges of sexual harassment, assault against women, and criminal intimidation. Tomar was also named as a co-accused in this case.

Congress Leader KC Venugopal's Critique

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal criticized the central government for lacking the courage to address the opposition's demands within Parliament. These demands included concerns over alleged police action against student protesters and the Ram Mandir donation scandal. He questioned the absence of the Home Minister during parliamentary proceedings, noting that this marked a significant change from his previous active participation.

Questions Raised About Home Minister's Absence

Venugopal stated, "We are simply asking a straightforward question: Why is the Home Minister not attending Parliament? What is the reason for his absence?" He pointed out that the Home Minister had been very active in previous sessions, whether it was regarding his own bills or others. However, in the current session, he has not been present in either the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.
