Supreme Court Ruling on Coal Block Allocation Case

New Delhi, July 29 - Following the Supreme Court's decision to terminate criminal proceedings against former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the coal block allocation case, the Congress party took a jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize to the nation. The Supreme Court dismissed the criminal case against Singh and revoked the order summoning him as an accused. In response, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed on 'X', stating, 'The Prime Minister should seek forgiveness from the country.'

Additionally, Pawan Khera, head of the party's media department, referenced the Anna Hazare movement, claiming that the 'India Against Corruption' campaign was essentially 'Corruption Against India.'

Manmohan Singh Cleared of Charges

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 27, 2024, has now been formally acquitted in this high-profile criminal case. The bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohan accepted the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) closure report, which exonerated Singh and others. The apex court remarked that there was no justification for the subordinate court judge to reject the CBI's closure report and take cognizance of the matter.
