Congress Condemns Minister's Remarks

Itanagar, Dec 4: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has expressed strong disapproval of state Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing's comments made during an election rally, where he allegedly stated that "no funds and schemes will be allocated to regions where a BJP candidate loses."

The Congress party claims that Tasing's statement breaches the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and represents an abuse of his official position under the Representation of the People Act. They have called on the Election Commission to acknowledge the issue and take prompt action.

Describing the statement as an "insult" to the electorate, the party is demanding that legal action be taken against Tasing for his alleged misuse of authority and is seeking a public apology from him. Additionally, they have urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu to remove him from the cabinet on ethical grounds.

According to the APCC, the BJP's threats reflect their anxiety over losing public support and their inability to provide adequate development. They encouraged voters to "exercise their voting rights freely and without fear," as stated in their announcement.

The controversial remark was reportedly made at the home of BJP candidate Gunu Linggi in Mayu-II, located in the Lower Dibang Valley district, where Linggi is running for the Roing zilla parishad constituency.

The APCC has labeled the comment as "undemocratic and unconstitutional," asserting that it constitutes a threat to voters and an abuse of governmental power during the electoral process.

"Public funds are not the property of any political party. Intimidating voters with the prospect of losing development opportunities if they do not support the BJP is a direct assault on democracy and citizens' rights," stated Kon Jirjo Jotham, APCC general secretary and spokesperson.

The APCC emphasized that public welfare funds and initiatives "should not be treated as political leverage or party assets," accusing the ruling BJP of employing coercive tactics during the panchayat and municipal elections.

The Congress party reiterated that development is a fundamental right for all citizens and assured that they would "never discriminate" against voters if they come to power.
