Congress Accuses Madhya Pradesh CM of Land Scam in Ujjain

Pawan Khera from Congress has leveled serious allegations against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, claiming his family is involved in a land scam related to the Ujjain Kumbh Mela. Khera argues that the land purchases represent a conflict of interest and likens the situation to insider trading. He also criticizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to take action against Yadav. The controversy has intensified following reports of a significant land scam in Ujjain, drawing attention from opposition parties. This article delves into the details of the allegations and the political implications surrounding them.

Allegations Against CM Mohan Yadav

On Wednesday, Pawan Khera, the chairman of the Congress media and publicity department, targeted Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the BJP regarding an alleged land scam in Ujjain. He claimed that there is a conflict of interest concerning land purchases made by Yadav's family in the area designated for the 'Ujjain Master Plan 2035'. During a press conference in New Delhi, Khera alleged that family members of Mohan Yadav acquired 111 acres out of 168 acres in the region where the Ujjain Kumbh Mela is set to take place in 2028. Linking this issue to the alleged embezzlement of donations for the Ayodhya Ram Temple, the Congress leader stated, 'I told Jitu Patwari that this is not just a regional or national issue, but an international one. Both this and Ayodhya are matters of international significance. People’s faith is tied to these cities, and they save every penny to go on pilgrimages. Stealing or misappropriating funds is an affront to their beliefs. You (Mohan Yadav) are the Chief Minister, and you have previously served as the education minister and chairman of the tourism corporation. Therefore, files pass through your desk. You can influence the master plan and possess insider information. Your family had already purchased hundreds of acres of land before you became CM.'

Insider Trading Allegations

After Yadav assumed office, his family members bought 111 acres of land in the area designated for the Kumbh Mela out of a total of 168 acres. Khera likened this to 'insider trading' in stock market terms. He further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that no action would be taken against Mohan Yadav. Khera remarked, 'Do not expect anything from the Prime Minister. He will serve you 'melody' abroad and 'jhalmuri' here, while his Chief Minister seizes the gold and silver from land and donations. In the language of the RSS, 'Ayodhya and Ujjain are just a glimpse; Mathura and Kashi are yet to come.'

Congress's Broader Critique

Earlier, Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders while ignoring alleged corruption involving ruling party officials, including CM Mohan Yadav. Following reports of a '253-acre land scam' in Ujjain, Mohan Yadav has come under scrutiny from the opposition.
