Political Leaders React to Protests in Bangladesh
In response to violent protests in Bangladesh that resulted in injuries to at least four individuals, Union Minister Giriraj Singh described the incident as tragic. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on Friday, Singh expressed his concern, stating that this is particularly alarming for those who advocate for secularism in India. Such occurrences raise serious questions that warrant thoughtful consideration.

Commenting on the situation in Bangladesh, Singh lamented that the country appears to be following in Pakistan's footsteps, highlighting the presence of leaders like Mamata Banerjee who he believes wish to transform India into Bangladesh. Congress MP Sukdev Bhagat also reacted to the situation, calling it unfortunate. He noted that it is deeply regrettable that Bangladesh, a nation India helped establish, is now adopting an adversarial stance against us. The current situations in Nepal and Sri Lanka, along with past events in Pakistan, underscore the importance of diplomatic responsibility.
Samik Bhattacharya, president of the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed his concerns regarding the situation in Bangladesh on Friday, suggesting that extremists are behind the recent events. He indicated that it seems they have control over the situation. Bhattacharya assured that the central government and the Ministry of External Affairs are addressing the matter appropriately and will respond accordingly.

During a press conference, a Rajya Sabha member addressed questions regarding the situation in Bangladesh, stating, “Extremism and radicalism are spreading in Bangladesh like cancer. All rational thinkers must unite to combat this threat.” He added, “Since the 1980s, radical forces have been establishing their roots in Bangladesh. This has crossed all limits. As seen last night, even free thinkers and liberals are becoming victims of attacks. The entire world is suffering from the consequences of extremism. Only a nationalist government and party can confront these challenges.”
