Withdrawal of Complaints Against Girls

Complaints filed against eight girls, including a 15-year-old minor who used inappropriate language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest related to civil liberties, have been retracted. The minor expressed her desire to drop the case after publicly apologizing and receiving forgiveness from the Prime Minister.

Smriti Singh, a Supreme Court lawyer and the complainant, stated that following the Prime Minister's public forgiveness and the release of apology videos by the girls, she decided to withdraw her petition.

Details of the Initial Complaint

Smriti Singh, residing in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, informed a news media outlet that she initially filed complaints against eight girls, with the girl from Noida being the first. A zero FIR was lodged at the Noida Expressway police station on July 29.

According to Singh, the case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 352 (deliberate insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), Section 353(1) (statements causing public unrest), and Section 356(1) (defamation).

Apologies and Resolution

Singh mentioned, "After the Prime Minister's appeal for forgiveness, all the girls, including the one from Noida, uploaded videos apologizing. I had also stated that I would withdraw my complaint if they apologized."

In a video following the incident, PM Modi remarked, "Using abusive language never leads to solutions. Let us guide the misguided and work together for India."

Singh confirmed that all eight complaints have been withdrawn as the girls have apologized, stating, "Since the Prime Minister has forgiven them, I also do not wish to pursue this matter further. I have informed the Delhi police and the crime branch of my decision."

Family's Current Situation

The family of the minor girl, who lived in a housing society in Sector 168, Noida, is currently not at home, as reported by security and maintenance staff. They noted that the family has largely stayed out of the public eye since the video surfaced, and police officials from Delhi and Noida have visited their residence multiple times.

Staff members indicated they have no information regarding the family's current whereabouts. An officer from the Noida Expressway police station stated that no complaints of harassment have been reported within the jurisdiction of the housing society or police station.

The officer explained that the zero FIR was registered on the same day the complaint was received and subsequently transferred to the Delhi police, as the alleged incident occurred in the national capital. He added that the family has not been in contact with local police since then and may have temporarily relocated to Faridabad.

Mother's Appeal and Concerns

Previously, the girl's mother had appealed to PM Modi for forgiveness for her daughter, stating that the family had repeatedly apologized and that the minor was misled during the protest.

On August 1, the mother publicly thanked the Prime Minister for forgiving her daughter and urged the government to consider restricting social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook for children aged 10 to 20. She argued that minors should be kept away from protests and political activities as they can be easily influenced.

The mother also claimed that despite their repeated apologies, police officers frequently visited their home after the video of her daughter's comments went viral. She alleged that the FIR incorrectly stated her daughter's age and requested that the case be withdrawn so that the 15-year-old could live "peacefully."

Legal Representation

Anil Kumar, the family's lawyer, asserted that the girl is a minor and alleged that the complaint inaccurately described her as a 25-year-old salon worker. He contended that the FIR was filed without a proper preliminary investigation, claiming that such an inquiry could have prevented the case from being registered.
