In a crucial development aimed at aiding those affected by the devastating flash floods in Kangra district, a total compensation of ₹1,22,41,950 (Rupees One Crore Twenty-Two Lakh Forty-One Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty) has been allocated under the Employees’ Compensation Act of 1923, following the directives from the Court of the Commissioner, Dharamshala-cum-Senior Civil Judge, Dr. Hakikat Dhanda.

This situation arose from the tragic events of June 25, 2025, when a sudden cloudburst led to flash floods that resulted in the death or disappearance of eight workers from Indira Priyadarshini Hydro Power Private Limited. The incident unfolded in District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

The employer had initially reported the incident in accordance with the Workmen’s Compensation Rules of 1924. However, the required compensation was not deposited as mandated by Section 8(1) of the Act. Recognizing this oversight, the Court promptly issued orders for compliance.

Following the Court's instructions, the employer has now submitted the full compensation amount via a demand draft made out to the Commissioner under the Employees’ Compensation Act in Dharamshala. This fund will be allocated to the dependents of the deceased or missing employees.

Additionally, the Court has mandated that copies of the ruling be forwarded to the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) in Kangra, Chamba, Doda (Jammu & Kashmir), and Deoria (Uttar Pradesh) to ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support in accessing the compensation.

It has also been made clear that if the dependents wish, the compensation can be transferred to their respective district jurisdictions, simplifying the disbursement process. This action underscores the Court's dedication to upholding labor welfare laws and ensuring prompt financial aid to the families impacted.
