Community Backs Siang Upper Multipurpose Project with MoU Signing

In a pivotal move for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, 56 households from Bomdo village have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, showcasing strong community support. The agreement, signed by local officials, marks a significant milestone in the project's development, which aims to enhance energy security and socio-economic opportunities in the region. The deputy commissioner addressed the community, clarifying the project's benefits and addressing concerns, further solidifying local backing for this national importance initiative.
 

Community Support for Siang Upper Multipurpose Project


Itanagar, March 17: In a significant step forward for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), 56 out of 77 households in Bomdo village, located in the Upper Siang district, have officially expressed their support by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).


The MoU was signed by Talo Jerang, the deputy commissioner of Upper Siang, representing the Arunachal Pradesh government.


On behalf of the Project Affected Families from Bomdo village, Binbo Lonchung signed the agreement and presented the consent authorization to the deputy commissioner.


During the event, DC Talo Jerang addressed the attendees, discussing various elements of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) survey and addressing any concerns or misunderstandings regarding the study process.


He commended the residents of Bomdo village for their proactive and supportive stance towards the proposed initiative.


The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Conference Hall of the DC Bungalow in Yingkiong on Monday, attended by SUMP Development Committee vice-chairperson Lumgeng Litin, committee members Omiyang Boli and Dubom Tekseng, circle officer Kenbang Jongkey, and representatives from the Project Affected Families (PAFs).


This development signifies an increase in community involvement and backing for the ongoing PFR activities related to the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in the Upper Siang district.


Set to be constructed on the Siang River, the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project is deemed a project of national significance, aimed at enhancing energy security, improving infrastructure, and creating long-term socio-economic benefits for the region.


The signing of these MoUs for the PFR phase represents a vital milestone, allowing the government to commence detailed evaluations and planning efforts.
