Collision Averted Between Akasa and SpiceJet Aircraft at Delhi Airport

A significant incident was narrowly avoided at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Thursday when an Akasa and a SpiceJet aircraft collided. Fortunately, reports indicate that the collision was minor, and there were no injuries reported.

According to sources, a SpiceJet B737-700 was taxiing at the Delhi airport when its right wing struck the wing of a stationary Akasa aircraft. This minor collision resulted in damage to both planes. It has been reported that the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft was broken, while a part of the left side of the Akasa plane was also affected.

Statement from Akasa Airlines
The Akasa aircraft was operating flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad but had to return to the bay following the incident. A spokesperson for Akasa stated that initial reports suggest their aircraft was stationary when it was struck by the other airline's plane. The spokesperson added, “All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft, and our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to ensure passengers reach Hyderabad as soon as possible.”

Comments from SpiceJet Spokesperson
In response to the incident at Delhi Airport, a SpiceJet spokesperson mentioned that while taxiing, their B737-700 aircraft was involved in a ground incident, resulting in damage to its right winglet and the left horizontal stabilizer of the other airline's aircraft. Consequently, the SpiceJet plane has been grounded in Delhi.
