New Leadership for the Cockroach Party
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced the appointment of three spokespersons on Wednesday, who will represent the movement to the public and media. According to a statement released on the judicial council's social media handle, investigative journalist Saurabh Das will serve as the chief spokesperson. Political researcher, author, and filmmaker Vijeta Dahiya, along with Ashutosh Ranka, will also take on spokesperson roles alongside Das.
Commitment to Change Political Discourse
The statement further emphasized that the CJP is dedicated to transforming India's political dialogue, led by a new generation of leaders. Saurabh Das was noted as one of the individuals who led anti-pollution protests at India Gate in Delhi back in November 2025. The trio brings complementary expertise to the movement, with Das focusing on accountability-driven messaging, Dahiya engaging with civil society, and Ranka aiming to strengthen the group's appeal among educated youth and tech professionals.
Emergence of CJP Amidst Controversy
The CJP platform was launched this month following controversial remarks made by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana regarding unemployed youth, quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing social media movements in the country. The party has primarily gained traction online, uniting student anger over examination irregularities and failures in accountability within India's education sector. The appointment of spokespersons signals a shift towards a more organized and people-centric campaign ahead of protests scheduled for June 6 against alleged NEET exam paper leaks and other irregularities involving Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Plans for Upcoming Protests
Abhijit Dipke, the founder of CJP, stated that they will apply for necessary police permissions at the Parliament Street police station upon their arrival in India on June 6 to lead a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The movement claims that approximately 9.5 million students have been affected by irregularities in various national-level examinations. An online petition demanding the resignation of the education minister has reportedly garnered over 800,000 signatures. In response, the government removed Rahul Singh, the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Himanshu Gupta, the board's secretary, and established a one-member inquiry committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the board's on-screen marking system.
