He emerged as one of the tournament's top wicket-takers, claiming 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 20.50, sharing the honor with Jasprit Bumrah.

India's Historic T20 World Cup 2026 Victory

In the T20 World Cup 2026 final, India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs on March 8, successfully defending their title. This victory marked a historic moment as India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to secure consecutive titles following their 2024 win, and the first to lift the trophy three times (2007, 2024, and 2026).

Record-Breaking Performance in the Final

During the final match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first. However, Abhishek Sharma's explosive return to form, scoring 52 runs off just 21 balls, along with a significant partnership with Samson, made New Zealand regret their decision. Samson also contributed to a century partnership with Ishan Kishan, who scored 54 runs off 25 balls, propelling India past the 200-run mark by the 16th over.

After a slight slowdown, Shivam Dube added valuable runs, finishing with 26 runs off eight balls, leading India to a remarkable total of 255/5, the highest score ever recorded in T20 World Cup finals. James Neesham was New Zealand's standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 46 runs.

Bumrah and Axar Dominate Kiwi Batting

In response to India's formidable total of 256 runs, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the New Zealand batting lineup. Axar took 3 wickets for 23 runs, while Bumrah claimed 4 wickets for just 15 runs, leaving New Zealand struggling at 72/5. Despite a half-century from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 runs off 26 balls, and a brief partnership between Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner, India continued to take wickets, ultimately bowling New Zealand out for 159 runs.
