The New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) has announced that all shops and establishments in Connaught Place, including offices and restaurants, must cease operations by 6:30 PM on Thursday. This decision comes in response to ongoing protests by the Cockroach Public Party (CJP) following irregularities in the NEET UG examination. In a statement, the NDTA urged all business owners to comply with this directive to prevent any unpleasant incidents and to safeguard property and personal safety. The NDTA emphasized that, based on the advice of the NDMC chairman and vice-chairman, and considering the serious situation around Connaught Place, it is strongly recommended that all businesses in the area close by 6:30 PM today, July 23, 2026.
Protests Disrupt Central Delhi
Recent CJP protests have significantly disrupted conditions in central Delhi. Demonstrators are adamant about their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the NEET paper leak. Sources have indicated that the CJP has rejected the government's proposal to resume talks, even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of fast-track courts to address paper leak cases. Nevertheless, the government continues to assure the center that it is concerned about the students' issues and is taking action. Sitharaman also accused the opposition, particularly the Congress party, of politicizing the issue and expressed that they do not wish to engage in a fair discussion in Parliament. However, she urged the opposition to participate in a broader debate and discuss the matters at hand. She noted that responses have been provided at the prime ministerial level. In fact, prior to today's announcement regarding the establishment of fast-track courts and the commitment to punish those who compromise the integrity of examinations through leaks, purchases, or sales, the government had already apprehended individuals involved in these crimes.
