Clash Between Security Forces and Militants Erupts in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir
Encounter in Kishtwar District
On Wednesday morning, an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The confrontation is ongoing in the Kalaban forest region of Naidgam, as confirmed by officials.
The White Knight Corps shared on the social media platform 'X' that, "This morning, a coordinated intelligence-based operation was initiated in conjunction with Jammu and Kashmir Police, leading to an engagement with militants in the Chhatru general area by vigilant soldiers of the White Knight Corps."
The operation is still in progress, with security forces reportedly facing two to three militants. There are reports of one soldier sustaining minor injuries.
Security forces have been closely monitoring militant activities in Kishtwar district, resulting in several encounters in this area, which borders the Doda and Udhampur districts.
Recent Encounters in the Region
In the past seven months, Kishtwar has witnessed six encounters as security forces continue their search for Pakistani militants hiding in the hills. An encounter with a group of militants occurred in the Chhatru area on September 21.
On September 13, two soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, were martyred during an encounter in the Naidgam area of Chhatru, with two other soldiers sustaining injuries.
Intense encounters also took place in the Dul and Chhatru areas on August 11 and July 2, but the militants managed to escape.
In a May 22 encounter in the Singapore area of Chhatru, two militants were killed, and one soldier was martyred. Additionally, on April 12, three militants were neutralized in Kishtwar, while the army thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants in the Akhnoor sector along the Line of Control.
