Ravindra Chavan, the president of the Maharashtra BJP, has issued a clarification regarding his recent comments about Vilasrao Deshmukh. This statement came in response to a strong reaction from actor Riteish Deshmukh, the son of the former Chief Minister. During an election rally in Latur on Monday, Chavan expressed confidence in the party's prospects for the upcoming municipal elections. He noted the enthusiasm among party workers, suggesting that the influence and legacy of Vilasrao Deshmukh are no longer significant in the city. However, he clarified that his intention was not to disrespect Vilasrao Deshmukh, stating, "He was a highly influential leader, and my remarks were not meant to be against him."

Chavan Elaborates on His Statement

Chavan further explained that his comments during the Latur rally aimed to highlight the difference between the Congress party's election strategy, which he believes focuses on Vilasrao Deshmukh's legacy, and the BJP's approach centered on the developmental initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra. He encouraged the crowd to raise their hands and chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai,' emphasizing that the memories of Vilasrao Deshmukh would soon fade from the city.

Upon arriving in Latur, Chavan observed that the Congress party's entire campaign for the municipal elections was centered around Vilasrao Deshmukh and his persona. He noted that the Congress agenda was primarily focused on soliciting votes based on Deshmukh's name, while the BJP highlighted the developmental work accomplished by Modi and Fadnavis in Maharashtra. Chavan aimed to compare the agendas of both parties in terms of their vision for the city's progress, which led to his controversial statement.
