CJP Distances Itself from Recent Protest Comments
On Thursday, Saurav Das, the spokesperson for the Cockroach People's Party (CJP), distanced the party from derogatory remarks made during a recent protest at Jantar Mantar. He expressed strong disapproval of the use of the criminal justice system against the protesters. Following the registration of an FIR against a girl from Noida for using offensive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protest, Das stated that while the use of such language can be criticized, targeting individuals through the police is entirely inappropriate.
Concerns Over Criminalization of Speech
Das questioned when using offensive language became a criminal offense in the country, noting that such expressions are common in daily life. He pointed out that around 50% of Lok Sabha members face criminal charges, including serious offenses like rape and murder, yet no action is taken against them. He condemned the selective targeting of individuals, calling it disgraceful. Das urged the government and police to stop harassing the youth and to let the girl go, emphasizing that the misuse of police power in such cases is unacceptable.
A Call for Caution Among Youth
Das appealed to the younger generation to be mindful of their choice of words. He urged them to be cautious about making derogatory comments against the public. However, he reiterated that employing the criminal justice system against protesters is fundamentally wrong. He stated that such actions should not occur and called on the police to remain calm and refrain from misusing their powers for political purposes.
