CJP Raises Alarm Over Detentions of Protesters in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar

This comes after the government assured that no punitive actions would be taken against participants in recent protests. Following a 36-day protest that ended with the resignation of former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the CJP is now demanding the release of all detainees and the withdrawal of FIRs. The organization warns that any breach of the government's assurances would be unacceptable and could lead to further actions.

CJP Voices Concerns Over Protester Detentions

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has raised alarms regarding the reported detentions and arrests of students and protesters in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar, despite the government's prior assurances against punitive actions for those involved in the recent nationwide protests.

This statement, released by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das on social media, follows the conclusion of a 36-day protest after the government agreed to their main demand for the resignation of former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Union ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh had assured that peaceful protesters would not face repercussions.

The protests, which began on June 20 due to alleged examination irregularities, included a significant 26-day hunger strike led by Sonam Wangchuk, concluding after the government provided assurances.

In their recent statement, the CJP noted receiving "multiple reports" indicating that students and protesters were being "targeted, detained, or arrested by various state agencies," particularly in the aforementioned states.

"The Cockroach Janta Party suspended its nationwide protest only after the Government of India assured us that no punitive measures would be taken against any protester, now or in the future, in any BJP-ruled or NDA-ruled states. The reports emerging from these states are therefore extremely concerning," the statement read.

The organization mentioned that its legal team is working with local lawyers to facilitate the release of those detained and to provide necessary legal support.

Additionally, they urged the central government, especially Nadda and Singh, to uphold their commitments made during negotiations by ensuring the release of detainees and preventing any "coercive or retaliatory actions" against protesters nationwide.

"The FIRs filed should also be retracted," the statement emphasized.

The CJP reminded the government of its promise to deliver a written guarantee on this matter by Tuesday and urged it to fulfill that obligation.

"Our choice to halt the nationwide protest was made in good faith, based solely on the government's assurance that it would uphold its commitments. Any deviation from that assurance would not only breach trust with the Cockroach Janta Party but also with the countless young Indians who opted for dialogue over protests," they stated.

The CJP warned that any violation of this assurance would be "entirely unacceptable to the youth," demanding the immediate release of all detainees and the withdrawal of all FIRs, or else they would "take further necessary actions."
