Release of CJP Leaders Following Protest Incident

New Delhi: On Wednesday, a special executive magistrate (SEM) ordered the release of leaders from the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, following the conclusion of their judicial custody related to the protest that took place on October 14 at Jantar Mantar.

During the proceedings, both leaders were presented before the SEM, where their sureties were also provided.

Das and Ranka had been placed in judicial custody for five days starting October 14 after being accused of entering a prohibited protest area at Jantar Mantar and breaching peace bonds.

Their custody was extended for an additional two days on October 19, which was set to end on Wednesday.

Earlier that day, the Delhi High Court declined to intervene in their judicial custody, advising them to wait for the SEM's ruling and to seek appellate relief if they continued to have concerns.
