CJP's Initiative to Unite Farmers and Students
The 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP) has reached out to farmer leader Rakesh Tikait to form a united front involving farmers, students, and youth. Ashutosh Ranka, a spokesperson for CJP, who met with Tikait, expressed optimism that various groups would collectively challenge the government led by Narendra Modi. The meeting included Ranka, several other CJP leaders, Tikait, and members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). According to CJP, the primary focus of the discussions was to devise future strategies for bringing farmers, students, and youth together on a common platform.
After the meeting, Ranka stated that the organization hopes to establish a significant coalition against the Modi administration. He emphasized the need for farmers and the youth of the nation to collaborate in their efforts to confront the government from all sides. This gathering occurred shortly after CJP decided to suspend a 36-day protest regarding paper leaks and examination fraud, indicating a shift towards incorporating educational demands alongside issues pertinent to farmers and youth into their campaign.
The organization has accused the central and some state governments of failing to fulfill assurances made during student protests. They claim that actions against students continue in several states, with reports of cases being filed against protesters in Bihar and West Bengal, while FIRs are still being registered against students in states like Rajasthan. CJP leaders have sought Tikait's support in their demand for the withdrawal of cases against students. They warned that if no action is taken, they may initiate a nationwide movement in collaboration with farmer organizations and youth groups.
Support for Student Protests
Tikait has previously shown support for student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, visiting multiple times to back the demonstrators' demands. On July 20, clashes occurred between protesters and security personnel during a march led by CJP at Jantar Mantar, where security forces resorted to baton charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd attempting to advance towards Parliament. The protests intensified and spread to several other states, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue.
The movement concluded on Saturday (July 25) after the minister's resignation was accepted, along with the government's agreement to provide compensation to families of those who committed suicide and to refrain from filing FIRs against protesters. CJP has accused the central government of reneging on its promise to withdraw FIRs against student demonstrators, warning that they may resume nationwide protests.
