Citroen Plans to Manufacture 2CV EV in India: A Look at Its Design and Features
Citroen's Ambitious Plans for India
New Delhi - The parent company of Citroen, Stellantis, is exploring the potential of transforming India into a global production and export hub for its upcoming A-segment electric vehicle, the '2CV EV'. This compact electric hatchback, measuring 3.76 meters, was recently unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show and is expected to hit the market by 2028.
The initial price in Europe is projected to be around €15,000 (approximately ₹16 lakh). In light of the stiff competition from affordable Chinese electric vehicles in the European market, Stellantis plans to establish its Tiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu as a key manufacturing center, supported by a new investment of ₹4,000 crore in India.
The production of this new model will significantly enhance the output capacity at Stellantis's Tiruvallur facility. The company aims to increase its current production from 16,000 units to over 43,000 units by 2028. The Citroen 2CV EV is designed to weigh under one ton, allowing it to offer an impressive driving range even with a smaller, cost-effective battery. Its exterior and interior designs draw inspiration from the iconic original 2CV model.
The front of the car features a closed grille, semi-circular DRLs, and LED headlights, combined with a V-shaped bonnet that presents a retro yet modern aesthetic. Gloss-black finished round wheel arches and turn indicators on the C-pillar enhance its side profile, while 18-inch steel wheels inspired by the original model add to its charm. The rear showcases a black tailgate that extends to the bumper, flanked by attractive LED lights.
Inside, the cabin boasts a white and yellow color theme, with fabric finishes on the dashboard and door panels. It also includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, toggle switches, and comfortable mattress-style seats upholstered in tartan yellow.
