CISF Seizes Foreign Currency at Delhi Airport

New Delhi, Aug 31: Officials reported that personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) stationed at the International Departure section of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi uncovered foreign currency amounting to around Rs 22.08 lakh from a passenger en route to Dubai.

The CISF identified the individual on August 30 through behavioral detection techniques employed by the Check-in Investigation Wing (CIW).

The passenger was set to board FlyDubai flight FZ-442. Upon further inspection, CISF agents discovered 85,000 UAE Dirham, equivalent to approximately Rs 22.08 lakh, hidden within the passenger's hand luggage.

After the discovery, the passenger, along with the seized currency and their baggage, was transferred to Customs officials for further inquiry and appropriate legal measures.

The CISF emphasized that this incident showcases the vigilance and professionalism of its personnel in enhancing aviation security and curbing unauthorized transport of valuables at the airport.

This detection follows a recent incident where CISF personnel seized unaccounted cash totaling Rs 68.53 lakh from two passengers at IGI Airport on August 20.

In that case, CISF agents at Random X-BIS, ASG Delhi identified the cash through behavioral observation and subsequent CCTV review. Acting on their suspicions, one passenger was subjected to detailed screening, which led to the identification of another passenger traveling with him.

Both individuals were headed to Guwahati and then to Agartala. A thorough examination of their luggage revealed a total of Rs 68,53,500 in cash. The passengers, along with the cash, their baggage, and relevant travel documents, were then handed over to Income Tax officials for further action.

Previously, on July 17, CISF personnel at Terminal-1 of IGI Airport apprehended a passenger bound for Kolkata after observing suspicious behavior during security checks. A thorough search resulted in the recovery of 1.210 kg of gold hidden in the passenger's clothing, along with Rs 1,97,200 in unaccounted cash.

The passenger could not provide valid documentation or a satisfactory explanation for the items found. During the proceedings, he allegedly tried to persuade the on-duty CISF personnel to overlook the legal consequences. However, the personnel declined the offer and promptly escalated the matter to senior authorities.
